Duties Description The Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (NKI) is a dedicated research facility of the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) located on the grounds of Rockland Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, NY. NKI is affiliated with the New York University Langone Medical Center (NYULMC), located in midtown Manhattan. Applications are currently being invited for a full-time Research Scientist 4 position within NKI’s Center for Biomedical Imaging and Neuromodulation.
Duties will include: (1) design of scientific experiments to address a key scientific question in systems neuroscience, (2) collection of brain data (e.g. electrophysiological, optical, MRI, anatomical, behavioral, genetic) in anesthetized and awake nonhuman primate studies, (2) data analysis using rigorous statistical methodologies, (3) guidance of students, research assistants, and technicians, (4) coordinating and taking part in research projects requiring team efforts, (5) writing and obtaining grants, (6) writing and publishing scientific papers, (7) giving oral presentations at scientific meetings and other scientific venues.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum: bachelor’s degree and five years of professional research experience in an appropriate field.
**Substitutions: 5 years of professional research experience may include 2 or more years of master’s degree study in an appropriate field and at least 3 years of Ph.D. in an appropriate field.
Preferred: Preference will be given to a candidate with experience investigating two or more primate species, and who has familiarity with electrophysiological, optical and MRI methods. An emphasis on understanding brainwide circuits via collection of neural responses across multiple brain regions (such as visual, motor, parietal, temporal, and frontal regions). Able to develop rigorous data analysis methodologies for multimodal data. Familiar with modern neural recording and neurostimulation methods. Strong speaking, communication, and teamworking skills are also a plus.
