Duties Description Under the supervision of the Park Manager 1, SG-18, of DeVeaux Woods State Park, the incumbent of this position will assist in all aspects of park maintenance at DeVeaux Woods, Devil’s Hole, Reservoir and Whirlpool State Parks in addition to assisting with gorge trail maintenance. Duties will include:

• Assist with upper and lower Niagara Gorge Trail remediation and maintenance projects.
• Operate, maintain, and assist in repairing power equipment such as mowers, chainsaws, skid steers, and vacuum trucks.
• Conduct regular maintenance on park equipment to ensure it remains safe and functional.
• Assist in the upkeep of ice rinks, softball diamonds, and soccer fields.
• Perform semi-skilled tasks associated with general park maintenance including minor carpentry (measuring and cutting materials, replacing broken boards on porches), minor plumbing work (repairing faucets and hydrants, hot water tank flushing), and minor electrical repairs (changing switches, light fixtures, light bulbs, and breakers).
• Supervise, train, and evaluate the work of seasonal employees.
• Assist in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices, assisting and directing staff, and working with patrons to minimize potential problems.
• Assist with removing snow, shoveling snow, and operating vehicles to plow snow during the winter months.

Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in the operation and / or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility.

In addition to operations and maintenance, the following types of experience are also qualifying: law enforcement or security, firefighting, environmental education, environmental stewardship, natural resource management, forest management, wildlife management or preservation, or historic preservation or interpretation; OR

One year of military service in any of the military branches; OR

An Associate’s or higher-level degree, or 60 credit hours of college level coursework; OR

Completion of an appropriate two-year technical / trades school program or two years' experience as a trades assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson.

Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be able to work from heights on various terrain while wearing a harness to prune and create view sheds along the Niagara Gorge hiking trails.
• Must have the physical ability to perform medium to heavy lifting.
• Must have knowledge or work experience of Niagara Gorge or similar hiking trail remediation and repair.
• Must have the ability to operate a chainsaw and must have completed Game of Logging, CPR, First Aid, & AED training OR will need to complete these trainings within the probationary period as a term and condition of employment.
• Must have the ability to supervise and train others.
• Must have the ability to work a variable schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays.
